  • Amazing Island Holidays

Beautiful and remote islands for the perfect holiday getaway.

Sometimes on holiday you want to go out, be sociable and enjoy the cultural sights and sounds of the world’s great destinations. At other times though, all you really want is to get away from it all.

If you are looking to escape from the busy modern life, then an island holiday is the perfect getaway.  Take yourself off to one of these paradise locations.

    Madeira

Madeira is a long way out into the Atlantic Ocean, which means that not that many people are prepared to slog their way out there – making it a superb island retreat. The island has lent its name to both the famous cake and fortified wine, and has some simply stunning rugged scenery for walkers and ramblers alike.

    Easter Island

Easter Island is about as remote as you can get. Once you’ve taken a flight to the most westerly point of Chile, you’re still over 2,000 miles (3,500km) away from the island. The trip is totally worth it though, with some of the most sensational views in the world, including the world famous Moai statues. Easter Island is about as remote as you can get for an island. Once you arrive at Chile, which is the most westernly point you are still over 2,000 miles away! The trip is totally worth it though, Easter Island has some of the most amazing views in the world, inlcluding the uber famous Moai statues.

    Koh Phi Phi Leh

Koh phi phi wasdmade famous by the Leonardo DiCaprio film The beach. Flights to Thailand are getting cheaper and cheaper at the moment, and Koh Phi Phi is best accessed by river from Krabi or Phuket.  The Island was really tampered with during the filming of the movie, but since the tsunami in 2004 most of the islands natural beauty has returned.

    Meerufenfushi

The Maldives archipelago contains some 1,200 beautiful islands, each with their own unique signature. The capital Malé is certainly worth visiting, but for an isolated relaxing holiday Meeru is one of the best resorts available to enjoy the pleasures of the beautiful Indian Ocean.

    Necker Island

Sir Richard Branson has most things that money can buy, inlcuding his own exclusive island. Necker Island situtated in the British Virgin Islands of the Caribbean is about as private as you can get. The island only has the capacity for around 30 people, so bumping into tourists is not something you have to worry about!

  • Avoiding Possible Disability Travel Catastrophes

There is no doubt that the able bodied world has made disability travel much more difficult than it needs to be. Whether you have been disabled all of your life or if you are experiencing a long term injury or recovery period, traveling through the able bodied world can be quite infuriating if you let it.

Disability travel becomes much easier when you offer yourself the chance to gather up information that is necessary to help arm you for what you might face. If you can book through an agent that has experience in helping the disabled make the most out of their vacations or business trips, you have a serious leg up on your trip.

Otherwise you are going to need to get on the phone and ask some questions well before your departure, and most definitely before you actually book the trip. Airports and hotel are particularly poorly set up to deal with the needs of the disabled. Airport security has increased the difficulties that many people face when traveling. For instance, it is now standard practice for most airlines that you borrow their wheelchairs while yours goes into the checked baggage area.

Removing your shoes and doing other security related tasks can be extremely difficult. Let the security people know that you have difficulties performing certain tasks and ask before you go what their standard procedures are for those who can not complete security checks. Of course, this can significantly shorten the time you have to get from one terminal to the next in the event of a connecting flight. Scheduling three hours or more between connecting flights can help make up for the slow airline response to wheelchair needs.

This may seem excessive but it is not unusual for flights to be delayed by an hour or two, and having a little breathing room in between boarding time can be very helpful when your flight landed late.

Make sure that your hotel knows that you will have special needs before you book the room. Most hotels will try to be accommodating, but others literally do not have the access you will need. Make sure that you will be able to use the shower or bathtub, have easy access to the elevators, and will be able to receive assistance with your bags and any other needs you might have.

Hotels can be difficult when it comes to their set up. Disability travel issues often center just as much around the hotel as any other travel issue. Carpeting can make wheeling around difficult while the doorways are often only wide enough to allow the wheelchair through but are often not wide enough to account for hands that are propelling the chair forward via the wheels. Talk to the hotel in advance and be sure to leave them accurate and directive feedback about their disabled accommodations before you leave.

  • Experiencing Para-Gliding

Decades ago, when the mountaineers observed it challenging and unsafe to descend from their climbs by gliding from the hillside, using only a steerable parachute, they needed to generate a  lighter, more secure as well as much better gliders. Their invention was then named para-gliders or paragliders.

The first things you will notice in regards to a Paraglider is actually the look of it. Fairly like a sports parachute. This does not have features like a skydivers chute where you can pull their rip-cord after diving away from a plane, plus the chute opens, at times which has a smoke flare, simply to make it look more attractive. A paraglider is inflated even ahead of the actual flight, contrary to the sports parachutes.

The paragliders that are used now came from the wonders of aeronautical engineers within cloth and also lines that are risk-free and user friendly. It consists of thirty or even more cells between an upper and also a lower sail surface, which is sometimes called the canopy. To maintain the wing inflated throughout the flight, the cells are usually open in front to allow the air to be able to flow inside.

When taking off, the first phase is to fill your wing. Once you spread your wing on the hillside or even the broad area at the rear of you, be sure that your wing will get closer to the wind. The moment that’s done, begin yanking on your A-risers, which are connected closest to the front edge of the wing.
After some directions of how to get your wing stuffed with air and leaping up in the air flow, next thing to do would be to kite your wing up. Yes, like how you would fly a kite. You face the breeze; contain the brake toggles approaching the wind until you’re up!

Once you choose, all you need to do is drift a little to the left, in order to draw lower the toggle to your right using just a tad. Shortly, you are gliding down. Make absolutely certain never to land on any golf course where there are golfers around, or horses running around. Pick a clear spot. As you get closer to the ground, you pull down firmly on both toggles to help you to land with a gentle drop and walking pace down. Your wing deflates behind you and flutters down. You should pull it in to a bundle and start all over again for round two. It could take you much practice to master your take offs and landings.  Most of all, you’ve loved the ride.
